Most poetry is pretty stuffy and boring etc, but some poems are actually worth reading... If you know any, post them here biggrin.gif

Remember when.......
A computer was something on TV
From a science fiction show
A window was something you hated to clean....
And RAM was the cousin of a goat.....

MEG was the name of my girlfriend
And GIG was your middle finger upright
Now they all mean different things
And that really MEGA bytes

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano

Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3 1/2" floppy
You hoped nobody found out

Compress was something you did to the garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for a while

Log on was adding wood to the fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode

Cut you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu

I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head
I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead

Nice one, I'll see if I can find something good as well. Believe it or not, but I seriously have a few poetry bundles on my shelf tongue.gif
MysticAngel
Lol, that was good JarnoG!
I'm a short story writer and poet, so when I get time I'll try to put a few up! I warn you though, they tend to be pretty deep XD

As for famous poets that I think are good, there's to many to name! From Maya Angelou, Robert Burns, Shakespeare's Odes (ofcourse!), I guess it depends on what theme you are looking for.

@Jarin: why am I not surprised! XD
JarnoG
i'm afraid i'm a terrible writer so i'm not going to compose anything anytime soon, but i would love to see your work
Jarin
Don't get me wrong there, none of those are my own xD

However, chances are I'd find some thing if I'd open a drawer or two
MysticAngel
Lol, mine really aren't that good! Its just me rambling on about what I was feeling or thinking about at the time!
I've been writing poetry since I was about 10 years old, though I can only find altogether about 15 poems. Last one I wrote was like a year ago >< I don't get much time to do anything nowadays!
JarnoG
isn't that what poetry is all about (putting it in the least subtle way)? rambling on about what the author is feeling/thinking?

i won't be able to do it, but if you ramble good, you can get quite a nice poem biggrin.gif
(if i ramble about something it'll be just nonsense)
MysticAngel
but aren't many poems just nonsense most of the time too? Its all to do with personal interpretation!
JarnoG
true... but usually the poet understands his own poems (at least i hope they do...). if i ramble nonsense i'm not even going to try to understand it myself..
MysticAngel
Lol, true! The poet understands, but the readers come up with their own interpretations, which can often be the complete opposite of what was being said XD I've heard some wild ones too!
JarnoG
Great poem from the movie "Harold and Kumar escape from Guatanamobay"

?The Square Root of Three? by David Feinberg

I?m sure that I will always be
A lonely number like root three

The three is all that?s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath the vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nine

For nine could thwart this evil trick,
with just some quick arithmetic

I know I?ll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationality

When hark! What is this I see,
Another square root of a three

As quietly co-waltzing by,
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
Rejoicing as an integer

We break free from our mortal bonds
With the wave of magic wands

Our square root signs become unglued
Your love for me has been renewed

I happened to run into one of my old favorites (sorry Angel, it's Dutch). Lyrics of a pretty old song which we had to sing during music lessons, I find the lyrics to be inspiring.

Een jongeman uit Bennekom
vond in zijn tuin een vliegtuigbom
hij nodigde zijn vrienden om
het ding te demonteren.
Op de begravenis verscheen
van de genoodde vrienden geen
zij lagen met versplinterd been
dat kwam van 't exploderen

Refrein:
Zo gaan we allemaal naar de bliksem toe
je kunt alleen niet zeggen waar, wanneer en hoe
maar wat doet het er toe
ach hoe zielig

Een juffrouw bakte frikandel
al op een petroleumstel
terwijl zij bakte ging de bel
het was des buurmans gade
De jongste spruit heel bijdehand
vond juist de vlam heel interessant
de volgende dag stond in de krant :
"verzekering dekt de schade"

Een sleepboot had een reuzesjouw
en vorderde niet al te gauw
dus bond de stuurman met een touw
de veiligheidsklep stevig
maar bij het wachten in de sluis
vergat hij 't touwtje per abuis
de stuurman die ging niet naar huis
de klap was nogal hevig

Een overweg in dikke mist
daar kwam een automobilist
hij had zich niet goed vergewist
en reed met volgas henen
maar ook was er een dieseltrein
te zelfder tijd op dat stuk lijn
ze bleken er gelijk te zijn
van marmer was de grafsteen

Een trekker met een boer bemand
die ploegde een stuk akkerland
maar bij het draaien in de kant
geraakte hij te water
ijn voeten raakten hierbij klem
tussen het stuurwiel en de rem
hij riep maar niemand hoorde hem
zijn lijk vond men wat later

Een zekere Brown, Amerikaan
zou met zijn Ford uit rijden gaan
maar halverwege bleef hij staan
hij kon niet verder varen
heel misnoegd stapte hij uit
een brandend peukje in zijn snuit
hij keek in de benzinetuit
zijn leeftijd : 30 jaren

Een oude man uit Gaasterland
die nam eem bronzen vaas ter hand
en sloeg niet zonder tegenzin
zijn goede vrouw de hersens in
toen men hem hierop arresteerde
en naar de reden informeerde
zei hij zonder plichtplegingen
uit schoonheidsoverwegingen
MysticAngel
Encore!!!

lol, I may not be able to understand it but it flows well! XD

also the ones before where good too!! Square root of three XD
Jarin
Nice poem:

A programmer started to cuss
Because getting to sleep was a fuss
As he lay there in bed
Looping 'round in his head
was: while(!asleep()) sheep++;

Tiezol
haha nice ones, but that last one is like @.@...skipped it mostly biggrin.gif

btw, shouldn't this thread be at the creativity section?
MysticAngel
><

I remember being tortured to listen to that song every time we had chemistry in school!! Its gets so annoying after a while! XD
Tiezol
Can imagine...couldn't you use your meditating skills to deny the incoming of the song's sounds?
JarnoG
haha guess i can be happy we never had to listen to it biggrin.gif

on the other hand, if you know what's coming, you'll be asleep after the first line
Tiezol
So it is actually a lullaby falling-asleep.gif
JarnoG
haha lol, i guess it is...
it's an ineffective way to learn the elements tho...
